The process starts off with keyword research. Note that the higher converting phrases are generally the longer phrases, or what we now call the long tail. Keyword research is our market research, and it tells us what our customers are searching for...

 

Once we know what our customers are searching for, and we are happy with the level of competition for the keywords that we have selected we need to look at the existing website. The website structure needs to be as flat as possible.

 

Once we have the site structure in place we need to ensure that the pages are optimised to the keywords / phrases that we have selected. Most people think of SEO as a strategy for the search engines, not the user. However the purpose of thee tasks is to conduct market research into the customer and then present the customer with the product or service that theya re looking for using their language. In that way, when the customer arrives at the specific page they will get positive affirmation that they are in the right place when they see their exact search phrase at the top of the page.
